This Sunday 28 January at our 10am service at St James’s we will be commissioning new staff and volunteers. You are invited to attend that service to welcome them to our parish family.
Andrew Spence is our new Youth and Families Minister. He will work for our parish part-time and continue to work part-time as the Belmont Archdeaconry Youth Co-ordinator. Andrew and Emily will also lead the Anglican Youth Movement (AYM) house being established in our parish. We will also welcome others who are members of the AYM community – Anna Smart and Justin Ravenswood.
Guy and Summer Benton are volunteers in the parish who will be focusing on ministry to those in the 20-40 age range and their families. They will also assist with ministry to youth, while they work for the New Zealand Church Missionary Society and the South American Missionary Society promoting overseas mission to younger people. We welcome Guy, Summer and their children.
Our new chaplain for Chilton Saint James’ School is the Reverend Caro Willis. Caro is a vocational deacon and will be the Chaplain and will teach religious studies and art at Chilton. Caro and her family worship at St Paul’s Parish in Waiwhetu but, to maintain our connection with the school chaplaincy, will visit us for Sunday services occasionally.
Two young people from our parish will be serving this year as youth workers at Chilton. We will commission Eliza Benge. Amy Lauridsen is the second youth worker.
We are also pleased to announce that William McElwee will be serving the parish as our Interim Director of Music in coming months. We will commission William for this role.
It will be great to celebrate this new stage in our parish life and the contributions these new leaders will make. Please join us in welcoming them.
